Once upon a time the world celebrated paranormal researcher Ryan Buell whose appearance on the tv show “Paranormal State” on A&E from 2007 until 2011 ignited a rather enthusiastic fan base. Since then he was supposed to appear in parts of Canada for a June tour called “Paranormal: The Experience.” Another scheduled U.S. tour “Conversations with the Dead” was also canceled. Buell, 34, is facing two felony charges related to theft and stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of theft of services. Now, just weeks before the first ever National Ghost Hunting Day, this once loved ghost hunter has fallen from grace and landed in the Florence County Detention Center in SC with an audible THUD.
Thanks to the thorough investigative research of Diane Wilson from ABC 11 in North Carolina, Ryan was forced to relocate. Strategic alliances with popular psychics Chip Coffey and Michelle Belanger were either dissolved or strained. Things got so bad that his own mother had to chime in on Facebook:
Buell’s mother writes to Buell’s fans, “PLEASE stop enabling his situation by sending money, buying tickets to events that may never occur, buying merchandise/phone calls you may never get, paying money to watch him on Twitch, and giving him offers of shelter … I am pleading with you out of LOVE for my son and I’m frightened by what his situation has become.”
As a professional psychic, I have a mixed bag of emotions over this latest bit of news. On one hand I am so relieved that Ryan has been caught and brought to justice. On the other hand I’m livid that once again the conservatives and bigots have more ammunition to call all psychics and ghost hunters a bunch of charlatans because of this latest “bad apple.”
